Thoughts on Baptism
June 22, 2012
My latest article at Wineskins was one I sat on for nearly a year. I finally decided to dive into it. The words we use are important. I don’t want to be just baptized. I want to be a Christian. It’s hard to break a habit and I continually catch myself using the same terminology.
The title didn’t set well with me so I decided to call my grandfather and ask his opinion on the article and title. He agreed that it needed to be written and assured me that the title wasn’t too shocking. “People will just need to read it,” he said. I hope you’ll take the time to read it and feel free to leave you comments or e-mail me privately.
I’m striving to choose my words more correctly. I hope you’ll join me.

When I read the title on Wineskins I knew exactly where you were going. Maybe because I’ve felt the same way. In other groups people get saved. In the church of Christ we get baptized. Anyway, great article. I’d say more but don’t want to spoil it for those who haven’t read it.
Paula, thank you so much for your thoughtful article! As my oldest daughter begins to move toward becoming a Christian, I appreciated this reminder about language and perspective. Thank you!
