Who is the church of Christ?
October 1, 2007
I could give a list of chapters and verses to answer this question but I thought I would do something a bit different and a lot more personal.
To me the church of Christ is:
– a little old lady who won’t leave her house except on Sundays for worship service.
-a young preacher who just found out that his wife has a terminal illness.
-a couple watching their son die of cancer yet still taking time to send cards of comfort to others.
-an older couple raising their grandchildren, bringing them to Bible class, and smiling though their exhaustion.
-a tired, single mother wrestling her children during the worship service.
-an elderly lady saying goodbye to her husband of sixty eight years knowing that she will see him again someday.
-an unwed teenage mother, forgiven by Christ and determined to give her child a better life.
-a man who mows the church lawn and asks for nothing in return.
-a soldier waking up on the other side of the world with Jesus as his only nearby friend.
-a middle-aged lady raising three teenagers alone.
-a man battling an addiction and with the help of His Lord, winning.
-an inmate sitting in his jail cell thankful for the forgiveness granted by Christ.
-a woman on a strict budget who just gave her last twenty-dollar bill to help someone else in need.
The church of Christ is made up of Christians who are:
-imperfect.
-hurting with worldly problems.
-facing sin and temptation.
– aware that there is a better place.
-desperately trying to follow the Scripture.
-seeking comfort in the Word of God.
-expecting that great Day.
-anticipating the words, “Well done you good and faithful servant.”
-thankful that they have been forgiven of their sins.
The church of Christ isn’t a building on Main Street. It’s a group of people who are striving to follow their Savior and live godly lives in an ungodly world.

Paula, good description of what the church should be.
I agree. It’s all about people and others. Not about bricks and pews…
Thanks
This is a great post, thank you, you make the church sound so real. I love it.
Very good! But you forgot to add one – a busy mother who writes a beautiful birthday tribute to her husband on her blog which depicts the mutual respect God desires between a husband and wife!
You make me wonder why I didn’t think of that myself! Blessings to you as you reach out to the lost.
Your sister in Christ,
Tammy Snyder
