Crisis Care

July 31, 2020

I heard about a large church on the west coast recently and the way they were reaching out to people in their community and those within their congregation. They had thousands of members and one way they were growing and connecting was due to the church forming crisis groups. These groups consisted of people who had gone through a specific trauma and, because of the power of the Holy Spirit, overcame.

People currently going through divorce sat beside those who had already lived through a divorce. Blended families, those who had lost their jobs, addicts, or those dealing with the grief of lost loved ones sat beside and found comfort and support from those who knew the chaos, hurt, and comfort only Christ can bring. I loved how intentional this church was at working to restore the brokenness around them. My heart soared listening to how these crisis groups brought people together with others who could say that, because of the love and power of Christ they not only survived, they thrived in the storm. They weren’t afraid to admit they were struggling and were firm believers in the One who rescues. What a beautiful way to share hope and connect with each other.

Our country is in the midst of a worldwide crisis but regardless of the pandemic, crisis is and always has been around us. Don’t hide yours. Seek out those who have been there and aren’t afraid to help you bear your burdens. Be intentional in helping others with theirs. Create avenues for others to be honest about what they’re struggling with and unite them with those who can speak words of truth into their lives.

Grace and peace to you from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ. who comforts us in all our troubles, so that we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves have received from God. 2 Corinthians 1:3-4
